These fossils help researchers reconstruct the ancient marine environment and identify species that lived in the Zechstein Sea millions of years ago. This concentrates the hydrocarbons in the reservoir and creates reserves of economic grade. These are called evaporite deposits. These extinction events were likely caused by environmental factors such as changes in temperature, sea level, and ocean chemistry. They were formed over a period of 5-7 million years in the sea that stretched across the east of England, much of the modern North Sea and into modern day Denmark, Poland and Germany.
What is Zechstein chloride?
Zechstein magnesium chloride is the purest natural magnesium source of the world.
These salt layers are mined extensively across Europe.
Another significant deposit is potash, a term that refers to various potassium-containing salts. The fossilized remains of marine organisms found within the Zechstein Formation provide valuable insights into the evolution of life during the Permian Period. The most abundant of these is halite, commonly known as rock salt, a primary component of table salt used in food production, water softening, and chemical manufacturing.
Its immense scale made it a prominent geographical feature of its time.
This inland sea was relatively shallow and largely isolated from the open ocean.
When sea water is evaporated it leaves behind mineral deposits of chemical salts which form rock layers. It can tingle the first couple of times you apply, and you have the option to leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes and wash it off, or just go to bed with it on.

This continuous process of evaporation and replenishment over millions of years resulted in the deposition of massive layers of evaporite rocks, some accumulating to hundreds of meters thick.
